SEO Myths Debunked
There’s a whole lot of misinformation out there when it comes to SEO! So, in an attempt to educate, I’ve created what I believe to be the top FIVE SEO Myths that could be severely limiting your success.
- Forget those meta-tags! On-Page SEO doesn’t matter. While on-page SEO isn’t the end-all, be-all of SEO, it is important. And, it’s so easy to do, there’s no reason to skip it!
- I must get links from sites that are relevant to my industry/niche in order for them to be effective. It’s simple. You can’t control who links to you. Do you think that a link from Fox News or CNN wouldn’t be beneficial to your site simply because your niche is recipes? Absolutely not! It’s not the relevancy of the site that gives you the link, it’s their authority in the eyes of The Big G!
- I don’t need that social media stuff! With Google’s recent announcement that it’s using social signals to create a more personal user experience, social media is more valuable now than ever. Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Google+- all important for your SEO and go a long way in helping brand you as an expert in your field!
- Matt Cutts said it. It has to be true. Google spends a gazjillion (I made that up!) dollars annually on to achieve search engine algorithm nirvana. Do you think he’s going to give away the keys that will magically unlock their secrets? Absolutely not! You can learn far more about SEO in what Matt Cutts doesn’t say, as opposed to what he actually says.
- Google is the only game in town. While Google may represent the Super Bowl of search engines, it’s not the only game in town. Neglecting the importance of other search engines may cost you organic traffic that converts even better!
There’s plenty more SEO myths out there that I could debunk, but these are what I feel represent the TOP ones!
